What does nursing do to nurses?
Her War
Her War is a new opera for soprano and trumpet about WWI nurses’ experiences of nursing trauma and PTSD set to premiere for the Tête-à-Tête Festival 2021, with music by Edwin Roxburgh, libretto by BBC Radio 4 Tommies creator Jonathan Ruffle.
The work is based on the words and experiences of historical nurses and VADs applying for disability pensions based on their wartime service, to which striking parallels have emerged with nursing in the COVID-19 pandemic.
